Who We Serve
River’s Bend Trout–Sebec is developing therapeutic fly-fishing and nature-based programs in Sebec, Maine. Our programs are designed for veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders, educators, caregivers, and their families. Through supportive outdoor experiences, RBT-S seeks to promote mindfulness, resilience, connection, and personal growth.

Participants who fish must follow Maine fishing laws and possess a valid Maine fishing license unless exempt under state law
Therapeutic Outdoor Programs for Veterans & Active-Duty Military Service Members
Our Fly Fishing for Veterans program offers a unique opportunity for veterans, active-duty military, and their families to experience healing through the natural serenity of Maine’s outdoors. Fly fishing provides a calming, mindful experience that encourages emotional recovery, stress relief, and reconnection. In a peaceful, supportive setting, participants rediscover balance and strength while engaging in guided sessions designed to nurture overall quality of life.
Yet this program is far more than fishing—it’s about community, camaraderie, and belonging. Veterans and their families share meaningful experiences together, strengthening bonds and supporting one another on their path to healing.
As programs are developed, trained volunteers and qualified program partners will help create welcoming experiences for both new and experienced anglers.Beyond skill-building, each cast offers an opportunity to reduce stress, develop healthy coping skills, and build emotional resilience.

Therapeutic Fly Fishing and TF-EMDR Integration
- Reconnect with nature and support emotional well-being.
- Rediscover peace—one cast at a time, in the calm of Maine’s natural surroundings.
- When available, therapy may be facilitated by qualified mental-health professionals who integrate therapeutic fly fishing with trauma-focused EMDR.
- Clinical services will be provided only by appropriately licensed and trained mental-health professionals. Availability may vary by program.

Our Fly Fishing for First Responders program is designed specifically to support first responders and their families. Those who dedicate their lives to protecting and caring for others often face immense pressures that can affect their mental and emotional health. This program offers a restorative escape—an opportunity to reconnect, relax, and heal in the tranquil surroundings of Maine’s natural landscape.
The rhythmic, meditative motions of casting, combined with the soothing sounds of nature, help reduce stress, lower anxiety, and promote mindfulness. Participants are encouraged to slow down, breathe deeply, and let the natural rhythm of the river bring calm and clarity.
Within this peaceful and supportive setting, first responders and their families share meaningful moments together—building connection, resilience, and renewal. Guided by experienced staff and volunteers, each participant is offered a safe, welcoming space to focus on well-being and self-care.

Our nature-based program offers these dedicated families a vital opportunity to heal, reconnect, and recharge amidst the natural serenity of Maine together as a family unit.
